First Grade Newsletter

May 2017
May has arrived! It's hard to believe that the year has flown by so quickly. We are busy preparing for second grade in these last months of school.

In ELA, we will continue our study of Unit 5. Our phonics lessons will focus on r-controlled vowels and new digraphs. We will continue to review short and long vowel sounds and patterns. In these last months of school we will be working diligently to strengthen student reading fluency, and writing skills. It is very important that your child reads each night and completes reading log assignments.

In math we will be complete our unit on measurement. Our next focus of study will be “representing data”, and “three-dimensional geometry”. As always, please continue to practice addition and subtraction at home.

In science and social studies, we will continue to focus on life cycles and the living environment. We will learn about ways to take care of the Earth and its natural resources.

In religion we will begin our unit about the Holy Spirit. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support. We are proud of the progress that all of our students have made. Our classrooms are in need of some supplies: baby wipes, tissues, and pencils. Thank you for your continuous generosity!
