Mercy - love and forgiveness Penance - a prayer to say or an action to do that shows sorrow for our sins Conversion - turning back to God Confession - the act of telling our sins to the priest in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation Absolution - God’s forgiveness of sins through the words and actions of the priest in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation Mortal sins - very serious sins that break a person’s friendship with God, or turning away from God Venial sins - less serious sin that weakens a person’s friendship with God Examination of conscience - thinking about whether or not our choices show love for God, others, and ourselves Contrition - sorrow for sin

Act of Contrition - a prayer to tell God that we are sorry for the wrong choices we have made and to promise to try not to sin again
