Complete the two Castle Learning Assignments - Math 8 Polynomial Addition 2020 and Math 8 Polynomial Subtraction 2020. Show all work in you notebook and label with the correct Castle Learning assignment.
When you complete the subtraction one be very careful of the wording. For example when is says subtract
3x - 4 from 6x +7, it should be written (6x+7) - (3x - 4). Remember, when subtracting, the first polynomial remains the same and you must change all of the signs of the second polynomial. The next step should be 6x + 7 - 3x + 4. The final answer would be 3x + 11.

Watch the videos attached.
Read your textbook p.132-133.
Rule for subtraction of polynomials: If there is a subtraction sign between ( ), you leave the first polynomial and change all of the signs of the second polynomial. What you are really doing when you change the signs is using the distributive law and multiplying all terms in the second polynomial by -1. See the examples attached. After you carefully go over the examples given attempt the examples below the rules. I will post the answers to these tomorrow.
We will be having our Google Meet today at 1 PM. The link is below.
Monday, May 4
Go to Google Classroom
Watch the two videos on adding polynomials horizontally.
Remember the important rule: If there is an + sign between ( ), just take away the
( ) and add like terms. Terms are like terms if they have the same variable(s) and the same exponent. You can only add like terms. The answer should be in standard form (descending powers). See the examples on the attached sheet.
Complete workbook p.146 #15-33. You are not submitting anything today.

Go over the section on adding polynomials. It will review solving addition problems horizontally and then vertically. Most of the time you will be solving these problems horizontally. The rule is simple, take away the parentheses and add like terms. Hopefully from watching the videos yesterday, you will have a better understanding of what like and unlike terms are.
I am attaching polynomial notes that you can refer to if needed.
In your workbook please complete p. 145 1-10. Show all work in your notebook. You are not submitting your answers to me.

Welcome back! I hope you had a nice Easter with your family! I wish we were closer to seeing each other again, but safety must come first. Remember, what I have written here for Monday, April 20 is repeated on Google Classroom with any attachments your will need.
Go to joinmyquiz.com and enter the code 825548 and take the quiz to practice this concept.
You may have to go back to your textbook first to review how to find the degree of a polynomial or to look at the four worksheets on this concept. I am posting the answers to the last sheet on Degrees of Polynomials for you to check. This was assigned the last day before the Easter break. Remember, the answers are on the second sheet.
Week of April 6-8
April 8
This is our last day before Easter Break! I hope you have a great break!! I know it is hard, but try to enjoy the time with your family. I miss you and hope to see you soon.
Correct your answers to the two worksheets completed yesterday and the one from Monday. These can be found on Google Classroom. The first page of each will be without answers. You must scroll down to the second page with the answers.
Complete the worksheet on finding the degree of a polynomial. Record your answers in your notebook first, then use the answer sheet provided and submit.
Tuesday, April 7
Complete the two worksheets on Google Classroom on how to find the degree of a binomial and a trinomial. Record your answers in your notebook first. Then use the answer sheets and submit.
Remember, for a binomial or trinomial or any polynomial of more than one term, the degree of the polynomial will be the highest exponent. For example the degree of 14x^{4} + 3x^{3} + 2x^{2} +4x +5 is 4. Make sure that the polynomial is in standard form. This means in descending order. The polynomial 5x^{2} + 7x^{4}+3x +2x^{5}+6 is not in standard form. You must write it in standard form first (descending powers) and then determine the highest exponent. The standard form would be: 2x^{5} + 7x^{4} + 5x^{2} + 3x + 6. The degree of the polynomial would be 5.
IMPORTANT *** I will not accept the answer sheets for Degree of Monomials , Binomials and Trinomials after today. I want to post the answer on Wednesday so you can see any errors that you made.
Monday, April 6
Correct p. 141 in your workbook. The answers are on Google Classroom.
On Google Classroom, go over the examples of how to find the degree of a polynomial. There are examples and solutions given. First try to answer the questions on your own. The solutions follow the questions. Go over each carefully. Refer back to your text assignment from Friday if you are having problems.
When done, complete the worksheet, Degree of Monomials . Record your answers in your notebook first, then use the answer sheet provided and submit.
Remember to find the degree of a monomial you must add up all the exponents for each variable. For example the degree of 4x^{3}y^{2}z^{4 } is 9. You must add the 3+2+4 to get 9.
Week of March 30-April 3
Friday, April 3
Please review the two videos on Google Classroom on how to find the degree of a polynomial and take notes in your notebook.
Read p. 126 and 127 in your text .
Complete p.141 1-24. in your workbook.
There is nothing to submit today.
Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2
HAPPY ARIL FOOLS’ DAY!!! HERE IS A JOKE TO START THE DAY.
Why was the number 6 afraid of the number 7? Because 7 ate 9!
Work on the FACE-ing Math Activity. This activity is included in the packet you were given. Remember, if you do not have the papers, a copy can be found on Google Classroom under Packet. With the activity you should also have a blank face. What you need to do on the sheet is to solve the equations. Depending on your answers you need to draw what it says under the problems. For example #1 if your answer is -4, you must draw the first set of ears on the blank face. If your answer is 4, please draw the second set of ears. You need to show all work on LL. Put your completed work in your binder. Make sure that it is clearly labeled. Please do not squash the work on the paper. If you do not get one of the answers given, you must go back and do it again. On Google Classroom I have included a flowchart and a video on how to solve equations that you can use. No checks are required because it is a self-checking assignment. At the end of the day on Thursday, you are to send a screenshot of your completed picture and your LL with the work. Submit under Google Classroom.
Monday, March 30 and Tuesday, March 31
I am not assigning any new work today and tomorrow. Many of you have not yet submitted work from the last two weeks. I have sent many reminders to students on Google Classroom, so please check this out. I put all new grades on Power School this weekend. When you go on, you will be able to see what assignments are missing. I am giving you until Wednesday to complete any work that is still not done. ***If you handed in something on Sunday, Power School will not reflect this. The grades are based on assignments handed in through Saturday, March 28. Some of you have completed everything. CONGRATULATIONS!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. I know that this is new, but you must complete the math work daily and not let it pile up. If you have completed all you have to do and want to do some math I will be putting up an extra credit activity on Google Classroom. It is an interactive (Caching) assignment. We started this one in class earlier in the year so you should remember the directions. Remember, it is like a treasure hunt. You must complete each box, insert your answer into the web address and if you get to the next box, you were correct! This assignment is not mandatory, but I always want to have something extra to do if you wish. Please, do not attempt this assignment unless you have completed the daily assignments.
Friday, March 27
