Novel Studies (whole-class reads the same novel together)

Each grade will read two to three novels together as a class this year for the purposes of whole group discussion; analyzing literary elements and style; improving reading comprehension and vocabulary; and fostering a love of reading.
Some students have already brought some of these books to school. I ask that parents please provide the rest of the books by November 1st so we will have them available to read when we are ready to begin. Thank you!
Sixth Grade:
Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper
The Lightning Thief by Rick RiordanSeventh Grade:
Fish in a Tree by Linda Mullaly Hunt
My Brother Sam is Dead by Christopher Collier and James Lincoln Collier
A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park(I have replaced Lyddie, which was on this year's school supply list for 7th grade, with My Brother Sam is Dead because this book is an excellent portrayal of family life in Revolutionary War era Connecticut where Loyalists and Patriots sometimes lived under the same roof. This novel study will support their engagement in the topic of the Revolutionary War in social studies this year. Students can certainly read Lyddie on their own for a self-selected novel assignment if they wish.)
